Instructor Information
The instructors represent over 40 years of combined experience in the areas of software requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and project management. The instructors have applied the processes and methods covered by IEEE 12207 to formal software development within the DoD. Description
The Project Management, Concepts and Principles workshop is designed to teach the concepts, principles, and practices of effective project management to those who are responsible for the management of software development or maintenance activities.
The workshop covers the following topics:
• Basic Project Management Overview
• Work Breakdown Structures
• Cost Estimation Principles and Techniques
• Earned Value Management
• Scheduling
• Gantt Charts, PERT Charts, and Critical Path
• Project Tracking
• Software Project Planning and the CMM
• Software Project Tracking, Oversight and the CMM
• Customer Interface Plan
Small breakout groups participate in planned exercises to solidify workshop concepts.
At the Conclusion... The participants should be able to: |
| • | Relate project planning and tracking activities to the CMM |
| • | Develop a Work Breakdown Structure |
| • | Understand how to plan a project which includes a schedule, budget, earned value analysis, and resource allocation |
| • | Build a project plan which includes risk management |
| • | Understand the process of tracking a project |
| • | Understand the importance of the customer to a successful project |
| Associated Activities and Deliverables |
| • | In order to maximize the benefit to the organization, various auxiliary activities are performed ancillary to the workshop. |
| • | Pre-Workshop Interviews: One of the differences between this workshop and others is this is NOT a public course. It is customized to the needs of the organization. Through pre-workshop interviews of the participants, the proper level of detail is determined. These interviews are held at the client site, approximately 2 weeks prior to the delivery of the workshop. |
| • | Workshop Tailoring: From the data gathered during the interviews, the course content is tailored. Through this process, the participants are not taught what they already know but are given the appropriate level of detail. |
| • | Executive Out-Brief: At the conclusion of the workshop the instructors meet with the senior executives to discuss the results of the workshop, to review any issues or concerns raised in the workshop, and to discuss the role of senior leadership in implementing effective project management principles into the organization. |
Prerequisites Participants should have experience in the project types they will manage.
