Description
The Configuration Management (CM) Workshop is designed for software development and maintenance organizations that:
• Are interested in succeeding at CM
• Want to improve process maturity relative to CM
• Need to understand CM as specified in both commercial and military standards.
The workshop covers the following:
• An Overview of CM
• Basic Concepts and Principles of CM
• CM and the Software Life-Cycle
• Identification and Application of CM Standards
• CM in the CMMI
• CM Tools
• How to Adopt CM Practices Into an Organization
Small breakout groups are an integral part of the workshop. These groups participate in planned exercises that solidify workshop concepts.
At the Conclusion... The participant will: |

| • | Know the benefits of CM |
| • | Have an awareness of CM standards |
| • | Understand CM requirements of process improvement models |
| • | Identify advances in CM tool technology |
| • | Be aware of CM adoption issues |
| • | Be able to initiate a plan to implement CM into their organization |
| Associated Activities and Deliverables |
| • | To give maximum benefit to the organization, the following activities are conducted in association with the CM workshop: |
| • | Pre-Workshop Interviews are held to allow tailoring of the workshop to meet individual client needs, On-site interviews are conducted approximately 3 weeks prior to workshop delivery. |
| • | An executive out brief is conducted at the conclusion of the workshop. Lasting approximately 1 hour, the briefing is given to senior executives in a position to control resources. Topics discussed include: (1) Senior executives roles and responsibilities in CM; (2) Commitment to CM principles; (3) Organizational expectations after the workshop; (4) Possible challenges to effective CM adoption; (5) What are the next activities. |
Prerequisites Management commitment to improving CM processes.
